How to allow specific URLs or protocols for PROKON licensing to pass a firewall or proxy system and operate correctly

How do PROKON licenses work?

The number of PCs that PROKON can be installed on has no limit. However, the number of concurrent usages is determined by the number of license seats that you have access to. The license system uses cloud-based servers to seamlessly manage licenses and allows for easy sharing between multiple users in different locations. The licenses are hosted by Prokon and are accessible through License Manager using an active internet connection. Users only need to log in with their login credentials to gain access to available license set(s). Users then choose which sets to use in their license session. Once a session has been activated on a computer, the user can start using all modules included in the chosen sets. It is important to note that a session may be used offline for up to 30 days since it was created or last refreshed. The session will be refreshed automatically while PROKON is used with an active internet connection. Once a user has finished using a session, they may release the session within Lima to make the seats available for use by other users.

A detailed user guide for Lima is available at https://read.prokon.com/view/686799933/

I am using a Firewall and/or proxy in my organization. Which are the domains/protocols that I need to allow for PROKON’s licensing system to work properly?

The corporate IT administrator will need to configure the network firewall to allow communications to the PROKON License Server. Lima uses the HTTPS protocol on port 443 to communicate with the PROKON License Server. This is the same protocol and port used by secure Internet websites. The firewall must allow outgoing TCP connections on port 443 to *.prokon.com.

Within Lima, additional Proxy server settings are available if required by IT staff. However, by default, the system settings will be used and should be sufficient in the majority of cases.

Alternative Session Activation Methods:

  • Offline License Session Activation: If a computer does not have internet access, a license session file can be generated for it. License session files must be generated on a computer with internet access, thereafter files can be shared with offline computers. For the steps on how to do this read the instructions in the help document on the Licensing System (https://read.prokon.com/view/686799933/13/) see pages 13, 14, and Note that all sessions, regardless of how they are created, can be used offline for up to 30 days. Sessions are automatically refreshed while Prokon is being used on an online computer.
  • Email License Session Activation: License sessions can also be requested using email only. For the steps on how to do this read the instructions in the help document on the Licensing System (https://read.prokon.com/view/686799933/15/) see pages 14, 15, and 16.

Antivirus Configuration:

Antivirus apps use multiple layers of defense to guard against all the bad stuff that is floating around out there online. When a piece of malware is found on your PC, the antivirus will take immediate action, stopping any malicious processes in their tracks. In some cases, the antivirus software identifies Lima as malicious and quarantines or deletes the app. To prevent antivirus software from acting against Lima you can add \Prokon\Bin\LicenseManager.exe as an exception in your Antivirus software.
